Info from Theresa Massat says she has a SC court record that shows this couple were cousins. CCA asked for a copy March 1993. This Francis is called Francis Ficklin, Sr in the Butler Co, AL census records but since his father is also Francis Ficklin, I (CCA) labeled the father the "1st" in order not to confuse the names and the census records. Broyce: "An interesting finale to Francis' approximate 74 years is that on the 29th of May 1859, he purchased a marriage license and married my widowed great-grandmother, Isabella Kendall McCormack. By census time, 1860 Butler Co, AL, she was once again a widow. I've seen no further record on Francis Ficklin, but I'd like to think that he died with a smile on his face." In 1850 he and Mary were listed on the Butler County, Alabama census, family 414. He was listed as Francis Fickling, 64, m, farmer, SC, and Mary was listed as 59, f, b. SC. In 1860, he appears to be on the census with his son Richard in Caddo parrish, LA In 1870, he was living with his son in the Waco, Texas area.
