Shared note	She is listed on the Texas General Land Office Land Grant Search in Lampasas County, abstract number 1023, Milam Preemption, file number 4042, original Grantee Mary H. Straley, Patentee Mary H. Straley, Patent number 637, patent Vol. 17, 160 acres. The patent date was 9 Jan 1886. In 1882 she filed to obtain the land saying it had been abandoned by by someone named B. F. Attaway. Due to the abandonment, she considered it to be public land, open to being obtained through the Homestead Act. of 1873. The affidavit of settlement was dated 11 Mar 1882. F. D. Richardson and W. H. Richardson were involved in the paperwork. On 1 Feb 1882 she began to occupy and improve he land. J. L. Straley and W. L. Meeks also stated that she had actually settled on the land in Oct 1881.
