He was injured while a member of a posse that was going after horse thieves. He fell off his horse when he ran into a barbed wire fence while trying to catch a horse for another posse member to ride. The news article said he was about 40 years of age, and "he was highly respected on account of his worth as a citizen." The newspaper was the May 26, 1893 edition of the Coleman Voice. It seems his death from the injuries occured much later than the injury itself. The injury occurred near Atoka. The date on the tombstone may be different, so is this the same person? The article said he was about 40 years old, but he was actually 38. There is a possibility of error. The stone on FindAGrave is hard to read, but might be a 28, and indexes can be incorrect. The dates seem too close to be coincidence.
