The 1910 census records say they were married 10 years. Is this true?

On 21 June 1901 the newspaper in Caddo, Oklahoma said he had married in Muskogee the previous Sunday. Proof needs to be found. No record of a divorce from Elizabeth has been found, and this is the first mention of a marriage date that has been located. After a thorough search of online scans of the marriage records of that county during that time, there is no mention of the marriage in the indexes, and although I have not done a through search of every single record other than the indexes for the books, I am pretty confident that there was no legal marriage at that time.

James Edward DANIEL (06/23/1926 - 06/28/2014)
Obituary
DANIEL, James Edward (Age 88) Passed away June 28, 2014, at age 88, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Jose, CA on June 23, 1926 to parents James and Alma Daniel. He grew up in California until he joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16. While in the Service he was granted leave and went to visit relatives in Michigan. What started out as a family get together ended up being a 70 year love affair with his beautiful bride Elizabeth M. Daniel. They married six months later and just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 28th. Together they have four lovely daughters: Joan (Jerry) Clauder, Susan Daniel, Linda (Cliff) Brown, and Sharon (Rich) Daniel. He has four grandchildren: Lisa (Rob) Skellenger, Andrea (Sean) McManamy, Stacey (Troy) Lobdell, and Adam (Leha) Zachary. He has 11 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson Michael Arnold. Jim worked as a city bus driver in San Francisco, and in the CA grocery industry until retirement at age 55. It was at that time he turned his passion for cactus into a full time business and become known worldwide for his cactus nursery based out of San Jose, CA, aptly named "Cactus Gem's". He would get to be able to travel the world, looking for new specimens and ultimately propagating his own cacti and succulents, even naming them after his children and grandchildren. He was a brilliant man who enjoyed genealogy, photography, Indian artifacts, reading and traveling. His deep voice, hearty laugh and twinkling blue eyes will truly be missed here on Earth- but held in our hearts forever.

Name

She changed her name to Ella May.

Shared note

Ella May was married to a Mr. Bryan before JKD and had a daughter, "Barbara Bryan." In 1899 she started divorce proceedings against William Mark Bryan that cost $8.10. The divorce became final 8 May 1901. Mark Bryan became enamored with his next -door neighbor Bell Surrett who was 21 years old. She became pregnant and had a son named Cecil who was born in 1897--the same year as Barbara Allen Bryan. She also married a Wm. Torrence after JKD. per Jim Daniel. She ran Jordan Cafe in Addington, OK in 1920s. She, James & Frank are on the 1920 Census, Jeff. Co., Oklahoma. She is listed as a widow, 41 who can read and write. It says she was born in AR. She and her sons are listed as farm laborers. The children, James K (15) and Frank E. (12) did not attend school after 1 Sep 1919 according to this census. (Census record provided by James Daniel, June 2001) In the 1940's Ella was employed as a cook for a Southern Pacific Railroad construction gang in Gilroy, CA. See her family information in CCA's files, under James K. Daniel. She may be "Fannie Ella Jones b 1876 in Benton Co", re Jim Daniel.

A month after her divorce from Bryan, she supposedly married James Daniel. No record of that marriage has been found yet other than a newspaper announcement. The legal marriage record book does not show them in the index.
