He was Theophitus [sic] Smith Daniel, born 23 Sep 1889 in Texas, died in Memorial Hospital, Athens, Texas. His usual residence was Trinidad, Texas. He was a merchant. His father's name was T. S. Daniel, born in AL, and his mother was Lelia Weisner, born in TN. He was married. He died of pulmonary embolus due to cirrhosis of the liver. He was buried in Kerens Cemetery, Kerens, Texas, 11 Jul 1956.
NOTE: The birthdate is different from what we have in other sources by one year.

World War I Draft Registration:
He was Theophilus S. Daniel, Jr. aged 27, residing in Kerens, Texas. He was born September 23, 1889 in Kerens, Texas. He was employed at Daniel (second word hard to read) in Kerens, Texas. He was married, and had a wife and child under age 12 who were his dependents. He had no military experience, and claimed an exemption on the basis of having a dependent wife and child. He was medium build and height with blue eyes and brown hair. It was dated in June 1917.

Trinidad Mayor, T. S. Daniel Dies
Athens, Texas. --- Theophilus Smith Daniel, 67, mayor of Trinidad, died in an Athens Hospital Monday after a long illness.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Methodist Church at Trinidad Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Reverand E. J. Davis will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Kerens City Cemetery.
Daniel was serving as the recently incorporated town's first mayor. He was elected about a year and a half ago.
C. G. Ellis, mayor pro tem, probably will serve out Daniel's term.
Daniel operated the Daniel Sales Company at Trinidad.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jack Daniel of California and Theophilus Daniel Jr. of Athens; his mother, Mrs. Lela Daniel of Kerens; two brothers, Jerry Daniel and Joe Daniel, both of Kerens; two sisters, Mrs. John Beck and Mrs. Orleannu Owens, both of Kerens.

Trinidad Mayor Dies at Memorial Hospital
Theophilus Smith Daniel, 67, first mayor of the Town of Trinidad, died early Monday at the Henderson County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Trinidad. The officiating ministers were, the pastor, the Rev. E. J. Davis, the Rev. Harold Davis and the Rev. J. C. Presswood. Interment followed in the City Cemetery at Kerens.
Born September 23, 1889, Mr. Daniel moved to Trinidad in the year, 1927 and entered the merchantile business. Two years later he returned to Kerens and engaged in farming until 1941 when he moved a second time to Trinidad to accept employment with the Texas Power & LIght Company, a position he held until his retirement in 1954. Since that time he has been engaged in the appliance and hardware business in Trinidad, operating the Daniel Sales Company.
Active in the civic affairs of Trinidad, Mr. Daniel was a former president of the I. B. E. W., and was instrumental in the organization of the Lions Club, later becoming its president.
A leader in the recent incorporation movement, which is leading to marked progressive movement in the Town of Trinidad, Theo Daniel was elected the town first mayor in 1954. During his recent and prolonged illness, Mr. C. G. Ellis has been serving the community officially as Mayor Pro-tem.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bama Daniel of Trinidad; two sons, Jack Daniel of California, and Theophilus Daniel Jr. of Athens; his mother, Mrs. Lelia Daniel, Kerens; two brothers, Jerry and Joe Daniel of Kerens; two sisters, Mrs. John Beck and Mrs. Orlena Owens, both of Kerens. Pallbearers were C. G. Ellis, J. D. Woolf, J. C. Peebles, Grady Harkins, W. H. Clark, Murlin Jordan, Albert Arnett, and J. H. Ridgeway.
