He & his family delayed their move to TX because of money. They were reluctant to sell their most prized asset, a white stallion named Prince, in order to pay their moving expenses. Some years later, James came into the kitchen early one morning with a sad look on his face and announced that he had some bad news Prince was dead. Whereupon his wife, Elizabeth, said "Well, thank God! Now we can go to Texas." In the 1850 census they may be in the home of T. J. Daniel, 30 and his wife Martha, 24, AL, and children, Milton, 2, m and Mary, 8/12, f, AL (household 412, 1850 census, Butler County, AL, Beat 3, Series: M432 Roll:2 Page: 205)
