He served in CSA, Co A, 12th Rgt, Ala Inf. Taken prisoner at Winchester, MD on 19 Sep 1864, transferred to Pt. Lookout, MD prison camp where he died of acute dysentery on 11 Jan 1865. Buried as J. Pherreoah, in Space 790, POW Grave Yard. In the National Archives records, he is listed as Jeremiah Fero, Pvt. Co. A, 12 Alabama. He was captured by General Sheridan's Forces and sent to Point Lookout, Maryland 24 Sep 1864. He was also listed as J. Phearoah, Co. A, 12 AL Infantry. That record says he enlisted 24 Aug 1864 in Montgomery, Alabama by Capt. Ruell (?). He was never paid, and absent, missing in action since 19 Sep 1864. He arrived as a prisoner of war at Harper's Ferry 27 Sep 1864. He had been captured at Winchester, VA. He is listed as having died 11 Jan 1865 of acute dysentery. He was buried in Space 790 of the Prisoner of War Grave Yard. His hospital number was 5332. Those graves were disinterred, it seems, since there had been erosion of the gravesites in the original cemeteries. They were reinterred in Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery, Scotland, St. Mary's County, Maryland. It seems his name was spelled many different ways in the records.
