Stallings ancestor line in "Oakey Streak, a Historic Landmark", by Fern S. Nix, printed Dec 1980, supplied by Broyce McCormack. All "Dan's" children born in AL. His Family Bible in poss. of Mrs. Laurin Avant, Andalusia, AL in 1960. "Dan" was about seven years old when his father, Malachi, died. It appears that this family did follow their father's wishes, as expressed in this will, and remained together until they were of age and the children married. Family legend tells us that in 1818 the 3 brothers, Jesse, Reuben, "Dan" and at least one sister, Susannah Stallings Reid Lane, started their migration to Alabama. It appears they were accompanied by friends and neighbors on the Wagon train. Before leaving Georgia the group ran into an Indian ambush and in the excitement the group separated. Reuben and those in his group moved on to Clarke Co, Miss. Jesse, Dan and Susannah settled in what is now Butler Co, AL. Dan married Harriet Lane, and there were 12 children of this marriage. Two may have died young and we can only account for 10. Harriet died in Butler Co, AL about 1846/47. Dan then married Mrs. Bridgett Williamson and had two more children. It is fortunate that both Dan and his brother Jesse, had Family Bibles. They named their children the same in many instances and others had similar names. In 1960 the "Wm. Daniel Stallings" Bible was in the possession of Mrs. Laurin Avant of Andalusia, Alabama. Source: Butler Co, AL- Estate of Daniel Stallings, Probate Minute Bk 19, pgs 18 & 19. Note: Nov 1993, while in the TN Archives, cca found a Bible record of Hezekiah H. Stallings, son of John Stallings & Katherine his wife, was born 6 Feb 1816. H. H.'s line is followed until 1926. The children's names will be listed here in case this family later connects to "our" Stallings: Letter (sic) Ann; Catherine Patience; John Stowers; Thomas Hale; Wm. Richard; Amanda Jane; Wm. George; Mary Elizabeth; Lasssie C; Thomas H; Joseph; Charlie John; Ralph D. Stallings. |
