Nicholas was reported first in James City County, VA on 5 Nov 1635, where he was imported along with 23 others by Wm. Swan. On March 1, 1638/9 Thomas Swan named Nic. in repatenting the land of his late father, Wm Swan. On Feb. 15, 1655 Wm. Wright imported Nic. and his wife, not named, to Nansemond Co, VA. Nic. may have been one of the many unrecorded early settlers of what is now NC, for on Apr. 1, 1663 Geo. Catchmaid patented a large tract on the Perquimans River and listed Nicholas Stallings as one of the headwrights.
The early records of Nansemond Co, Va were destroyed by fire and the Stallings's line can only be deduced from other records.
Nicholas was named as an heir in the will of Edmund Moscroft, a VA merchant, which was probated in London, Eng, Dec 18, 1638. Nicholas was also a witness to the will.
