Shared note
During World War II he received some training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He and a few friends went to a movie one evenign, but could not find adjacent seats. A young girl from Alabama who was working in Memphis also went to that movie the same evening, but could not find a seat with her friends. She and David happened to sit next to each other, and she thought he was the cutest soldier she had ever seen. They chatted, and two months later, they married. He was working at Behren's Drug store when the big tornado hit Waco in 1953. He was missing for a while, and his co-workers feared the worst. As it turned out, he had been hit in the head by a flying board or something else, and he had been knocked unconcious. Relatives searched for him, wading through the flooded streets and wreckage in the attempt to get to him. He was fine in spite of the bump on his head. Everyone was thankful for that when so many had lost theirs lives that day.
