Wanda Hood said in an e-mail, "my grandmother lived, for awhile. in the home of William Byrd, gov. of the Chickasaws, He also named her little brother Minco, which meant little chief, in Chickasaw. Later he took the name of Frank. possibly after Gov, Byrds brother, Do you know of any connection to the Byrd family?...We found notes, in my grandmothers scrap book, showing she had gone to school, near Conawa or Allen Ok. This didn't make sense because her father had never lived there, I do know she was very close to her Grandmother." (A later e-mail corrects this to Kanowa, OK) This seems strange since James Kanowa Daniel was the first boy born in Kanowa and was the son of James Kirkpatrick Daniel, married to Mozelle's aunt Elizabeth Shanks. The family story is that he disapeared and they did not know what had happened to him.... How does this match up with the family stories? In notes she left she indicated that she went to school near Kanowa or Allen, Oklahoma. There is a picture of her with a teacher that Wanda Hood believes may have taught in Allen Academy.
