Shared note

Abel came with his parents to Montgomery, AL, probably in the spring of 1819. His grandsons remembered stories that Abel related. He was especially fond of telling how he would often go down to the banks of the Alabama River to watch the young Indian boys catch fish with no other aid than their bare hands and quick reflexes. The Daniel's first home in what is now the city of Montgomery was not a healthy place to live. Catoma Creek would often overflow its banks during the rainy season and sickness was rampant.

On 22 Mar 1845 he was appointed Constable in Butler Co., AL. (Civil Register County Officials, Vol. 3, 1844-1867, page 76, referenced on Ancestry.com although the original scans were not available). On 28 Dec 1849 and 18 Mar 1850 he was appointed Justice of the Peace in Butler County (Civil REgister County Officials, Vol.3, 1844-1867, page 75 and 76, referenced on Ancestry.com, although the original scans were not available).
