Shared note	Mary Williams said that he was a drummer boy in the Civil War when he was about 12 years of age. His grandson also said that he was a Civil War Veteran. Verify this! She said he lied about his age, however, it would appear that he would have had to have served at the age of 11 at the oldest. This seems to be pushing it a bit! This definitely needs to be verified! I suspect he did lie about his age as his brother did. He was probably James C. Williams, or J. C. Williams, aged 18 at enlistment. I belived there were some enlistments of that kind. I need to recheck. He and his wife appear to be on the 1880 census for Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky (www.familysearch.org, ©1999-2002 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc, page 422D, Family History Library Film 1254406, NA Film Number T9-0406). He was James Williams, a white male, 25 born in TN, a farmer, father born in TN, Mother born in TN. His wife is Mary Williams, wife, single [sic], white female, 23, keeping house, born in TN, Father born in MO, and mother born in TN. There is a discrepancy with her birthplace, so there is a possibility of error here, but the ages seem right. Since I cannot find them in Tennessee, I suspect this is the correct family. One census record, (1930) showed their oldest child, Della, as born in Kentucky in 1880. That indicates a stronger possibility that they were in Kentucky for a while. He was born in Tennessee. His daughter Margaret's death records indicate he was born in Cannon County. However, there appears to be a Berry Williams and family living in Rutherford county in 1850, 1860, and 1870 census (although it has been indexed as Benj; the actual record looks like it may actually be Berry). A Berry Williams was in Cannon County, Tennessee in 1848 (CANNON COUNTY, TN - WILLS - Inventories of Estates (Abstracts) 1848-1859). There was also one in Marshall County in 1838 (MARSHALL COUNTY, TN - COURT- Minutes OCT 1838 SESSION). It appears that the Berry Wiliams living in Rutherford County is not his father. It does appear that the correct Berry Williams was on the 1850 census in Coffee County, Tennessee, and he was not found with Cyrena in any census records after that. He might be in Dade County, GA in 1860 with three sons (including James). More research is needed, but it appears that the marriage broke up before 1860. Nolen officiated and internment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. William's death followed an illness of several weeks. The aged man had been a resident of Murfreesboro for many years. He is survived by two sons, J. F. of Fort Worth, and Dayton of Nashville and three daughters, Mrs. Sallie Adkins, Miss Della Williams and Mrs. W. O. Willis of California. The other census records do not say that, but this could help confirm that James and Mary lived in Kentucky in 1880 as the previously mentioned 1880 Kentucky census record seemed to indicate.
