In 1904, he and some of the Sansoms were listed among the students in school in Mercury where C. L. Gault was the principal. HAPPY MARRIAGE REQUIRES LIKENESS SAY ALEXANDERS
FORT STOCKTON (SC)--Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Riley Alexander, Pecos County ranch couple, are observing their 50th wedding anniversary today at a reception given by their sons and daughter-in-law. Hosts from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Small Community Hall are Hollys Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riley Alexander.
Married on Oct. 30, 1910 in Llano, the couple was born within a mile of each other. Parents of both, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Sam S. Redford, were stock farmers. Before their marriage, the couple taught school. Mr. Alexander taught in McCulloch County and Schleicher Counties.
After their marriage, they made their home on a Scleicher County ranch near Eldorado where they ranched 18 years before buying their present operation, a ranch near Girvin in Pecos County. They have lived in Fort Stockton since 1938.
THEIR RECIPE for a happy married life includes similar backgrounds and interests, and cooperation. Both have served on school boards in Pecos and Schleicher Counties. Both are life long members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Alexander is presently deacon of the First Baptist Church here and Mrs. Alexander has been active in church and community work. In the receiving line with the honor couple will be the hosts and four of five grandchildren, Miss Lynda Alexander and Jerry Alexander of San Angelo, and Clayton and Cary Alexander. Houseparty members include Mrs. W. A. Kay, Mrs. Lem Smith, Mrs. W. R. Moody, Mrs. Dee S. Thomas, Mrs. O. T. Jernigan, Mrs. W. A Adams, Mrs. Ray Newton, Mrs. Sallie Buster, Mrs. Sim Reeves Sr. and Mrs. Clay Warnock. Also among houseparty members are Mrs. Ben Hillger of Truth or Consequences, N. M., Mrs. Gene Riggs, Mrs. Billy L. Moody, Mrs. Clinton Atkins and Mrs. Max Hall.
BACKGROUND music will be furnished by A. D. Jackson, Mrs. E. L. Howard and Mrs. Clay Warnock. Centering the tea table will be yellow roses in a footed sterling silver bowl, flanked by silver candlesticks holding antique white candles. White ribbon will have "50th" spelled out in gold lace. A silver service and silver appointments will be used. The table will be laid with a Madeira cloth. Greenery and berries sprayed gold will decorate the mantel, in addition to two gold candelabra holding antique white tapers, and the piano will have gold foliage arrangement and graduated tapers of antique white. A single yellow rose will be on the guest register table. He owned a ranch in Gervin, Texas while he lived in Fort Stockton. His son Hollis ran it. His niece's husband, Lee Bush, ran one for him in the Glass mountains near Marathon.

He was Joseph Riley Alexander, born 23 May 1886 in Texas. He resided at 200 S. Pecos St., Fort Stockton, and had resided there for 44 years. He died at Memorial Hospital, Fort Stockton, Pecos, Texas on 27 May 1973. He was a rancher involved in the ranching business. The cause of death wsa failure of cardiac respiratory center (2 days). There were other medical issues, but they are difficult to read. He was buried 28 May 1973 in East Hill cemetery, Fort Stockton, Texas.
