Buck served in Co D, 35th Reg, GA Inf, and in Co 12, 11 Regt, State Militia Service. He fought in the Battle of Atlanta and received the UDC Cross of Honor for service. From his "Certificate of Disability for Discharge": "I certify that I have carefully examined the said Private W. C. Daniel of Capt L.A.G. Williams' Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of dislocation of distal head of ulna of several years standing - incurable." Signed ____ Claiborne, surgeon, S. Hospital, Petersburg, VA (undated). There are two different documents with two discharge dates; 30 May 1862 and 4 Jun 1862. LIFE ON THE DANIEL FARM Tread softly and you'll hear echoes wafted through the air--babies crying, hen cackling, roosters crowing, dogs barking, geese quacking---especially when the feathers were being plucked for making feather beds - sounds of livestock in the barnyard, and the clang of the cow bell, morning and night, as the cows were driven to and from pasture. You might even hear the musical tone of Myra's voice as she sang "Sing Song Kitty" and did her little dance to entertain her grandchildren, or, as in more recent years, you might be able to detect the hum of Clark's car as he came home late at night. Should you be fortunate enough to be one of the Daniel descendants, you would delve into memories of a wide-spreading chestnut tree - my, those sticky burrs, of Clark's "bait bed"- always plenty of worms for fishing at Barge's Pond, - of cotton picking and the ride on the wagon load of cotton, pulled by mules, of course, - of corn and fodder pulling, of wheat being cut by a man swinging a scythe, of that barrel of ashes, oak ashes, - the drippings from which somehow helped in the making of soap,- of the battling block on which the wet clothes were placed and the dirt literally beaten from them, - of that creek that had no bridge, but must be crossed when going to the dentist in Parrott... Memories of guests,- the suitcase kind, they came and they stayed, but always received a cheerful greeting, a hug, and a lasting Reality would strike and you'd remember that the land has changed owners, the house is gone, and the people have passed away, but aromas, echoes, and memories testify to the fact that they were people who knew how to really live, whose actions showed love for each other and others. To live in this fashion required labor - hard, hard work and yet they succeeded, but HOW? Because they labored in tune with nature and nature's God. What a heritage!
