The Nye information says: "There is a story about my Grandmother & Grandfather York you should know. When P.L. York asked Grandma & Grandpa Daniel for Emma they were not too happy because she was so young. They told Mr. York and Emma that the only way they would agree would be that their first child would belong to them, so when Fannie was born Grandma came and took her. She lived with them the rest of her life. I have a lot of census records and she is not mentioned as being one of the York children." History of Webster County, page 164, under the Joseph Barge Family: John William Barge... married Fannie H. York..., daughter of Rev. P.L. York (Fannie H. York was reared by relatives Mr. and Mrs Alex Daniel of Webster County (sic.)..." References for the P.L. York family given as: "Bible, cemetery Records, History of Stewart, Randolph & Terrell Counties, "2 of the sisters still living & they remember". In one set of records from Marie McLaughlin, Fannie is shown as a second daughter of Elizabeth Hortman and Abel Daniel, but that Fannie is probably identical to this, and is their granddaughter, daughter of Emma. Fannie may have used her grandparents name or been so listed in later census records. In the more recent family photo Fanny Hill York is next to John W. Barge, in the middle of the group is Elizabeth H. Daniel (Dikie) beside her is Emma Barge and next is an unidentified boy of about the same age (10-14?) sitting in front of Dikie is John L. Barge with some unidentified younger children. In the older group photo, Fanny Hill York is named and Lizzie and Emma Barge are in front with some younger, unidentified children. |
