In a 9-12-80 letter from Billie Beard to Winona & Chester, is the tragedy of his parents from the Beard point of view. "I'll try logical (chronological order). In 1897 my grandfather, Henry Britton Beard died. On 17 Nov 1900, Sarah Beard Daniel, his sister died. Her husband, Almond A. Daniel, who was also their second cousin (I think). It seems my grandmother, Sarah Carisle Beard and A. A. Daniel were married and expecting immediately. The older boys of her children (mostly Tom) just wouldn't "have that", ran AA "off" and wouldn't let them live together. A. A. shot himself on the street in Wills Point (to death) Sept 25, 1901. Some say - if he hadn't, the boys would have. This was before the child was born. Anyway, the child, Roddy or "Tilly" Daniel was raised in the Beard family - but there must have been a great deal of enmity - as he left Van Zant as a young man. He is now some where in New Mexico - but there is still no communication - even when my father was the last of that generation (except Uncle Tilly). Any way - I notice in the Cemeteries they are each with their 1st mates and no mention of others." |
