She was single in 1871, but by 1880 she was a widow with a dau Sarah age 5, and a son George age 2, and another dau Elizabeth age 2/12, all born in AR. George MAY BE the George W. Locke b 21 June 1876 d 1 Aug 1940, buried in New Providence Cem near Glenwood, Crenshaw Co, AL, age is "off" by 2 yrs. The 1880 census was taken June 5 & 7. After her sister Sarah Jane married in 1870, she was the only child left at home to "take care" of her widowed & aging father. As of August 1993, no evidence has surfaced to suggest that Martha left home before her father died. The first evidence of her marriage was on the 15th of April 1876, entry in the Sweetwater Church (Crenshaw Co, AL) Record... "heard the application by letter for a Letter-of-Dismission for Sister Martha E. Lock, formerly Ellington, which was granted."
