Obituary:

Services for Josiah Martin "Joe" Daniel Jr. will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Corsicana, with the Rev. Ed Nettleton of Lake City, Colo. and the Rev. Ed Baggett of Corsicana officiating. Burial will be at Kerens Cemetery.

Mr. Daniel, a retired oil and gas industry executive who resided in Austin, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Born Feb. 12, 1924 in Kerens, he was an Eagle Scout and a 1942 graduate of Corsicana High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps with the rank of lieutenant j.g. He married Peggy Glover of Pecos on Aug. 24, 1946. In 1949 he graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. degree in petroleum engineering. He was a longtime member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers. He was employed by Texaco from 1949 to 1957 and by Cabot Corporation in Pampa for the remainder of his career. His family will remember him as a very good man and a world class fly fisherman.

He is survived by his wife; sons, James Preston Daniel of Atlanta, Ga. and Josiah M. Daniel III of Dallas; and grandchildren, Carolyn Susanne Daniel and Michael Preston Daniel of Atlanta and Thaddeus E.S. Daniel and Josiah M. Daniel IV of Dallas.
