Previous information said he had 3 wives, Miss Pease, Miss Powell & the Widow Carr, children unknown. The transcript of McQueen Bible records posted on-line mentions a paper tucked inside the Bible which shows him married to Miss Relfe instead of Miss Pease. It says he was a preacher, and he did appear to perform a number of marriages in the area. It also appears that the widow he married was actually Mrs. Melissa R. McCall instead of Widow Carr. The previous information is retained for future research. It is possible that there is some error in my later information, or there might even be more than three wives. However, the corrected wives fit well in the census records, and appear to be correct. There does appear to be a George H. McCall who married Mrs. M. L. Powell 19 Sep 1872 in Lowndes County, Alabama, but it appears that this may be a different person. On September 19, 1862, he presented a claim to the Confederate governmetn in the matter of the death of his step-brother J. J. Willingham. An amount of $170 was found due. Military: He was a Sergeant of the 15th Batt'n Alabama Partisan Rangers. He was on the muster roll 2 Jun 1862 when he enlisted for the war with a horse valued at $300. He was absent with leave on 2 Jun 1862. He was transfered to Company A on 19 Dec 1862. He was a private in Co. A, 17th Regiment Alabama Infantry. He was discharged when he obtained a substitute named John Denniston. His discharge papers say he was born in Lowndes County, Alabama. He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, fair complexion, grey eyes, and light hair. He was a farmer. He had pay owed to him for 1 Nov 1862 - 19 Dec 1862 as Sergeant of Cavalry, and from 20 Dec 1862 to 25 Dec 1862 as private of infantry.
