Shared note

"My mother, Mary Elidia Hail Kolb Thomas was a small woman, and a very positive little woman. She tried twice to get a pension as a widow of a War Veteran, from her first husband, Joseph Henry Kolb, who was in the Mexican War. The 1st time she didn't write her name the exact way he had given it, she was turned down, however, she applied again with her name the same as he had written it, And received the widow's pension.
Papa had two little old maid Aunts, an uncle or someone looked after them. We are very possibly connected with the YANKEE general, George Thomas, who also had two little old maid sisters." (If so, this would have been another of the tragic circumstances of the war, where brothers fought on opposite sides. cca)
Note from Carol Bird Clarke: Mrs. Russell Thomas tells me she has done considerable research on the Thomas clan, and she feels there definitely is a connection with the above mentioned Gen. Thomas, "even if he was a Yankee". She also says a Mrs. Newton Kolb, who is either a daughter-in-law or grandaughter-in-law of John Kolb is doing research on the Kolb end.
