There may be a generation between Ephrim and Jack Jordan.
He relocated from North Carolina to Tennessee about 1790. He had two children at the time.
Mrs. A. G. J. McDaniel, Camden, TN wrote the following letter dated 22 Mar 1927 (transcribed as closely as possible by Nancy Steinbach)
My grandparents came from North Carolina about 1790. His name was Ephrim Jordan. I don't know what his wife was named as she died when my mother was 14. They had 2(??) when they came to Tennessee. Their children are namely Jack Jordan, Welvima, Sally, Eaphrm, Ray, Edman and Duke and Mary E. Jordan my mother. I believe Grandmother Jordan's name was Sally tho. She died in 1816. Grandpa Jordan was 87 years old when he died April 1861. Jack Jordan his oldest son moved to Camden, Arkansas in the fall of 1860. Grand Pappy's children names as I remember are as follows: Jack Jordan, Melvina (note in Pauline Jordan's handwriting says Hodges?), Sally (note in Pauline Jordan's writing says Holeday, Tn.) Ran, Eaphem, Edmon, Duke, Mary E my mother.
My father and mother was married T. H. (W) Kelley to Mary E. Jordan Dec. 4 1848
T. W. Kelly died March 8, 1901
Mary E. Kelly Oct 3, 1917
My brother died Mar 15, 1888 (could be 1898)
Sally died Nov 17 1824
My brother weren't married.
Sally married J. W. Sanders on Oct 15 1868. To them was born 3 children 2 girls and one boy all dead except one girl who is a Mrs. May (or Mary) Swindely. I was married to A. J. McDaniel April 4, 1876. We have 3 children Anna McDaniel born Dec 21 (?) 1877, Ola McDaniel Nov. 21, 1879, Tomas Neel (?) McDaniel June 12, 1885. My children are all living.
Anna married Leawey?? on April 17, 1899. She has 2 girls, Loraine 25 years old and Sala (?) 22. They live in St. Louis. Tom Neel McDaniel was married to Braway Durdan (?) on June 10, 1921. Ola McDaniel is still single and said she wouldn't marry any man she ever saw-glad she is in that notion for we couldn't keep house without her as my husband is 75 and I am almost 73 will be if I live till the 23 of August. Hope you can understand this and if there is anything else that I can tell you about the family let me know I would appreciate the address of some of your uncles and aunts. I mean that are cousins of mine for I don't know any of my cousins except Jay(?) Jordan on my mother's side and just one on my father's side. I am the only living one of a ? family hope that ? will have to ? what you. So ? would be glad to have your stop should you go by to Chattanooga to hear from you again with love.
Mrs. A. G. J. McDaniel
Camden, Tennessee
