He is on the 1850 census with his wife Mary and their daughter Elizabeth. He was shown as born in AL, and Mary was born in Tennessee. In the 1870 census Mary is a widow, and daughter Elizabeth is the oldest daughter. Milton was 8 years old, and baby Mttie was 3. Thus, Martin must have died between 1867 and 1869. On an emergency passport application by his son Milton, he is said to have been born in Jackson County, Mississippi.
