He was not found in the 1837 tax rolls for DeSoto County, Mississippi, but in 1839 he was on the tax rolls for DeSoto County, Mississippi. There was one poll and two slaves listed. The tax was $1.62 1/2. On the same page are listed Jos. (or Jas.) S. Morgan, James Greer (possibly his future father-in-law), and Jos. (or Jas.) M. Massey (this was probably his brother James).

On the 21 Jul 1857, he was appointed post master of Greenleaf, Desoto, Mississippi.

He was a on a list of men taking the amnesty oath 2 Aug 1865. His name is listed as Allen Massie.

His will was dated 9 Mar 1897. It was filed 14 Sep 1900 in Tate County, Mississippi. He bequeathed 5 dollars each to children Martha Alexander, David G. Massey, Julia Brigants, Ophelia Hurt Williams, and Clarence Massey. All else would be given to daughters Nancy and Ophelia Massey. He requested that either or both of his sons William or Clarence would live with Nancy and Ophelia. Those sons should look after the interests of their sisters, and use the proceeds from the place for their mutual interest. Sons David and William Massey were the executors of the will.

Died: Mr Allen Massey, one of the first white settlers in this vicinity departed this life the 9th inst. was born in Lancaster District SC February 20th, 1817, came to Mississippi about 50 years ago, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, leaves 7 children and a host of grandchildren and friends to mourn his loss, aged 83, and buried at Perry Church, Rev W A Cook, of Senatobia, preached the funeral and held the burial services. R A Jones and L P Miller, of Coldwater, attended the burial. Mrs Julia Brigance, daughter of the deceased, of Miller's Station, left for home last Friday after spending several days at the bedside of her father in his last illness. (Sybil Embry via Kay Lynn)
