Shared note

He received his M. D. degree from the College of Medicine which was the new name for COP&S (College of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons) in 1962. At the age of 72 he retired (1997). He had practiced for 35 years after completing his residency. During that time, he had never lost a patient in anesthesia. (The Merger) An obituary on FindAGrave seems to be this son of Joeph B. Taylor. It was published in the Fresno Bee 6 Jun 2007. It indicates the Dr. James S. Taylor lived in Torrance, California at the time of Joseph B. Taylor, Sr.'s death. It says he was born in Perryton, Texas, but reared in Aztec, NM with three brothers and one sister, all of whom had predeceased him. This seems strange since it appears the family lived in Aztec, NM during the time of his birth, unless they returned to Ochiltree County, Texas for a brief period. The obituary says he moved to California following his graduation from high school, and there he put himself through medical school by working as an iron-worker. During that time he married Fay Louise (maiden name not given). She was an organist and music teacher. They were married 43 years before she died in 1988. They had three children, Kenneth, Don, and Cathy. He taught anesthesia and did research at the University of Southern California. He was also chief of anesthesia at Bay Harbor Hospital in Torrance, California, and had a private pain therapy practice (over 30 years). From 1992-1995 he practiced at Community Hospitals after moving to Fresno, California. After his retirement he took up a second career as an artist and sculptor. He married his second wife, according to the obituary, in 1989. She was Maryna Sam Myers. She taught school in Fresno until she retired in 2004. His second wife survived him. The obituary also mentions his sons Kenneth, Don and wife MariaElena, and daughter Cathy. He also had a stepson named Marshall (wife Lora) and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at College Community Congregation Church in Fresno, California 9 Jun 2007. The place of burial was not given.
