He was a member of Sweetwater Church in 1850, dismissed in 1853 and back in church in 1854. After wife Mary Ann died, he married Temperance Daniel, dau of Thomas Daniel, and 1st cousin to JJ's 1st wife. In 1870 he & Tempie are in Covington Co, AL. living "next door" to Thomas & Nancy Daniel. In the mid 1850's JJ owned 80 acres of land adjoining the 200 a owned by Thomas Lowery, about a mile north of Sweetwater Church. The Covington Co. AL Courthouse/Probate Records office has a copy of a deed dated Jan 7, 1860 with Jackson's name on it. Hines Daniel believes a good deal of information could be found in this Court House if one had the time and knowledge to really search the records, even though the clerk said all records prior to 1896 were destroyed by fire, yet the copy of this transaction kind of shoots this down. The children's names are from the 1870 census. In August 1993, Gwynne & Hines Daniel went to Greenville, Al, and while in the library, met with Mrs. Opal Scott, a Jeter researcher, and obtained copies of Francis Marion Daniel's Bible, which is now in this database. CCA. Also in Aug/93, Marcella Messer met up with 4 ladies researching Jeter, and they had the information on Jackson Jeter & his children. 1870 Census Covington Co, AL, see for names of 3 other children....?????? Next door is S. Ficklin & Seabborn age 9 1880 Census 19-21 June, Jackson Co, FL pg 566, #207 NOTE: Aug 27 1993, re the children of Jackson and Temperance Ann (Daniel) Jeter...Becky Blake, has 8 children for this couple, but after #4 Sarah E, she has Elijah W, and then "Franklin", and all 3 born in December, ie 1858, 1861, &1862 for Franklin. The last child born, Seaborn W. also born on the 17th. but of March 1867. NOTICE there is a 6 year gap between James W. and the 2nd child, William T. Gwynne & Hines Daniel contacted this date to research this data and secure documentation. CCA. The June 1900 census, Pri. 9, Jackson Co, Florida, lists Jackson & Tempi in the home (#43) of Rebecca DYKES, widow, Head of HH, b 1870 in AL. She is their dau. "Temperance Rebecca". |
