Chick Henderson Dies: Funeral Held Monday
Funeral services for Clarence Lewis (Chick) Henderson, 29, were held at 2 p. m. Monday, March 1 in the Buttery Funeral home with Rev. W. H. Uhlman and Rev. Tommy Grozier officiating. Burial was in the Llano cemetery. He died Wednesday, Feb. 24 in Lakeport, California.
Henderson had been in ill health for several months. According to the Lakeport coroner's report, death was attributed to monoxide poisoning. Police officers of Lakeport found Henderson in his tightly locked station wagon with a hose connected from the exhaust pipe into the vehicle.
Funeral services in Lakeport were held at 10 a.m. Friday from the Summerill mortuary with the Rev. Marshall Lucky of the First Baptist church (sic) of Auburn, Calif., officiating. The body was returned to Texas by plane.
Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Henderson of Llano, was born here, attended Llano schools, graduated from Austin high school. He served in the U.S. Marines through World War II, spent three years in the South Pacific, was awarded the Purple Heart, and was then made orderly to Admiral Halsey for a year.
After the war, in 1946, he owned and operated an upholstery shop in Llano. He was married in 1947 to Connie Peterson of Austin. In Lakeport he was owner of Chic's Upholstery and Flower shop.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Henderson of Llano; two brothers, Capt. Wm. M. Henderson of Ellington AFB, Texas, and Francis Henderson of Austin; and a sister, Betty Henderson of Llano.
Pallbearers were Francis Kay Scott, Clinger Scott, Billy Johnson, Desmond Sagebiel, Lee Boy Wimberley, Billy Johnson and Jack Beason.
Honorary pallbearers were Floyd Madden, Worth Peterson, both of Llano; and Joe Bowmer of Austin.

Althea Henderson Bush said he was "shell shocked" in the war. He apparently never recovered from it.
