Natchez Trace Parkway

Cemetery Located Near Old Trace Exhibit Shelter

 Pictures!!!

We found this small cemetery while traveling along the Natchez Trace Parkway.  It was located at the southern end about 12 miles north of Natchez, MS, near the Old Trace Exhibit Shelter. Most of the cemetery was enclosed by a fence.

Outside the Fence

Three graves were located outside of the fence.

Robert E. Lee Pearson Aug. 14, 1882 Apr. 20, 1961
Grace E. Pearson Jan. 3, 1877 Jan. 30, 1961

There was another grave, a crumbled brick vault with no identification which was also outside the fence.

Inside the Fence

Most of the graves were inside a fence.  The majority of these stones began with the words
"Sacred to the Memory of..."

Gerard G. son of Gerard & Charlotte S. Brandon, he was born August 20th 1849, died March 31st 1854. A flower nipt in the bud.

Anna, Daughter of Gerard & Charlotte S. Brandon, who was born April 20th 1853 Died March 28th 1854

Charlotte B. Peirce Born Nov. 14, 1847 Died on Good Friday Apr. 3, 1885
She rests in the hope of the Blessed Easter
There is a cross with the word "Mother" on it. The back says "From her daughter Mary Brandon Peirce."

There is a large vault which says:

Sacred to the memory of Philip Brandon
Born Sept. 11th 1841
Died March 6th 1859
A youth of noble and generous nature
Manly, truthful and kind!
Affliction developed a gentleness
and fortitude made sublime by
his steady repose on God.
Death heeds not affections dears
Then wherefor should I weep
He cannot return to me
But I can go to him.
