Cottage Pudding

1/4 cup butter
1/2   "   sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup milk
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons bak. powd.
1/2         "          salt

Cream the butter and sugar then add the egg.  Bake in moderate oven.  Serve with

Plain Sauce

1     cup water
1/2    "   sugar
2 tablespoons corn starch (or flour) After the other is cooked add
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla or lemon.
